VOLUNTEERS & DONORS
Jason Amaro - blogger and hunter
Jason Amaro did not intend to become a valuable resource for New Mexico sportsmen when he started a blog last year: He had simply been lucky enough to draw some high quality hunting tags and wanted to see if other people might be interested in discussing their experiences online. Now he regularly updates his blog site, http://blog.thenewmexicosportsman.com/, with news, stories, and information of interest to more than 10,000 visitors per month.
Jason posts everything from New Mexico Department of Game and Fish press releases to photos from his own motion-sensitive trail cameras placed throughout the state to youth hunting success stories written by the kids themselves.
His blog continues to be nonprofit and unsponsored, so why does he do it? “It’s not about me,” he says, “I just get information out there and try to lead by example. I’m always the first one to complain so I need to put up or shut up. And if I can make a kid’s day and make him or her star for a week, it’s pretty cool. We need to encourage them to hunt and fish as much as we can.”
More to come
