DID YOU KNOW?
New Mexico Wildlife Federation was founded in 1914
Founded in 1914 by Aldo Leopold and other conservation-minded sportsmen, the New Mexico Wildlife Federation led the way in bringing back elk, Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, wild turkey and other wildlife species to New Mexico. We spearheaded efforts to save species like pronghorn antelope from local extinction. We also were instrumental in designating the world’s first wilderness area, the Gila Wilderness, and more recently in protecting Valle Vidal.
